It’s common to poke fun at women writers who apparently procrastinate because they clean their whole house before sitting down to write. Today I’m reorganizing my clippings into binders, naming them, putting paperwork (yes, I still have lots) into easier-to-handle groups. It all seems a bit like the real laundry I’ve also got going on downstairs.
Am I procrastinating? I’m facing a fair round of proofreading and editing, with a little writing to squeeze in there. But long-told-tales say one frequent sign a woman is about to give birth is that she spends 1 or 2 or 3 days energetically cleaning and preparing. So that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
