Your writing self is “an instinctive and emotional creature,” according to author Dorothea Brande. In her timeless book “Becoming a Writer,” Brande advises writers that “If you are not careful you will find yourself living the life that will give you the least annoyance and the greatest ease.”

That is not the life that stimulates and develops a writer’s talents, she warns in her 1934 guide. Look her up. My volume, printed 1981, sits on my severely edited shelf of remaining pbooks. (Print books as opposed to ebooks, of course.)
