Face-time. I breathe it. Screen-time doesn’t really sustain me the same way.
Victoria abounds in writers, editors, indie publishers and those in related trades, most of us chained to screens a great deal of the time, isolated from each other. This fragmented scene of many individuals and some groups is occasionally brought together at book launches and readings.
My weekly drop-in coffee sessions with other Victoria editors keeps my week sunny. Who else but editors (and some writers) would put up with obsessing over the exact meaning of a word and correcting each other when “alternatives” is meant rather than “options,” and then share someone’s joy at landing an interesting new contract?
The coffee kickstarts our Saturday morning amid the faces of new and old friends.
